The LUGO Press

About

The LUGO Press is a publication forum for all things sustainability, published by the Leiden University Green Office (LUGO). We encourage contributions from Leiden University students and staff – writers, illustrators, essayists, photographers, poets, cartoonists – on a wide range of sustainability topics. From justice, culture, and society to energy, technology, and geo-engineering, our focus is broad!

All content is created individually, and contributors are responsible for the content of their work.

Submission Guidelines: Be part of the LUGO Press!

Only Leiden University students and staff can make submissions to the LUGO Press. Send in your submissions, questions (or ideas to brainstorm) via email: communication@lugo.leidenuniv.nl. We would love to have you on board!

In the email:

  • Subject line: Include what type of article you are submitting (see Dossiers for examples). E.g.: LUGO Press submission essay
  • Body: Add a brief motivation/background for your submission & other things you want us to know, like which category tags we should add and how you want to be credited.
  • Don't forget to attach your submission, or a link to a shared document!

Guidelines for written submissions:

  • Language: All articles are posted in English (spelling: United Kingdom). If you prefer to write in Dutch, that's absolutely fine. Send us your work in Dutch, and we'll translate and publish it in both languages.
  • Recommended length for essays / opinion pieces etc.: between 300 and 2,500 words.
  • References: hyperlinked and of a reliable source.
  • Style can vary! When you submit something it will first be reviewed by an editor - please prepare to collaborate to get the best result possible :)

Guidelines for other submissions (illustrations, photos...):

  • Add a short text together with any submission that isn't text-based. This could be an explanation, an anecdote, context...
  • Ensure appropriate quality so images look good on web.
  • You can collaborate with a writer to create visuals that go together with their text submission. You can get in touch with us, or pair up with someone yourself.

!All submissions must be your own work!
